Bike Fight Barleywine
11.3% ABV, 43 IBU
Style: English Barleywine
Malts: Maris Otter, Caramel/Crystal 60L, Special B, Chocolate Malt
Hops: Northdown, East Kent Golding
Yeast: London Ale I (INIS-303)
Brewers: Chris D’Amico and Johnny Flowers
This is a big, boozy beer that’s big on malt flavor and with just enough hops to even things out.
In the words of the brewers:
“Chris D’Amico has been a beer nerd since he had his first Purple Haze. Yeah, yeah, yeah, but it was craft beer. Years of homebrewing followed and culminated in the opportunity to brew on a commercial system.
Johnny Flowers hasn’t been a beer nerd for quite as long as Chris but he has far better taste in beer. He found brewing on a commercial system to be much like homebrewing, except it was as if he and Chris were 1/4 of their usual heights.
This beer is a scaled-up version of a barleywine we brewed for Johnny’s 30th birthday. We hope it will help to get you through the winter, even if it is a short one!
The beer commemorates an eventful bike ride around Denver two summers ago [Editor’s note: the guest brewers wish to remain coy as to the full story behind the beer’s name].”
